Why Google Still Shows Outdated Business Information

After you update or remove a ShowMeLocal business listing, Google or Bing may continue displaying the previous information in their search results.

This does not necessarily mean the ShowMeLocal listing was not updated.

Why does this happen?

Google and Bing store indexed versions of webpages for use in their search results. Their search results may continue showing an older business name, address, phone number, page title, or description until the ShowMeLocal page is crawled and indexed again.

The information displayed on the ShowMeLocal page may already be correct while the search results still show an older version.

How long does it take?

Google and Bing determine when webpages are recrawled and when their search results are refreshed. ShowMeLocal does not control this schedule, and there is no guaranteed timeframe.

What happens after a listing is removed?

After a ShowMeLocal listing is removed, its previous search result may remain visible temporarily. The result should change or disappear after Google or Bing recrawls the page and updates its index.

What should I do?

  1. Open the ShowMeLocal page and confirm that the information has been updated or removed.
  2. If the ShowMeLocal page is correct, allow time for Google or Bing to recrawl and reindex it.
  3. Contact ShowMeLocal Support only if the ShowMeLocal page itself still displays incorrect information.
